Specialized Assisted Living

Specialized Assisted Living at the Commons allows residents with Alzheimer's and other related dementia to live the most active and independant lives possible in an innovative and stimulating environment.

The 36-room facility features an innovative, homelike environment designed to stimulate residents and encourage activity during the day. A spacious "town center" filled with natural light occupies the center of the facility, and residnets can spend their days in any of the "town" stores, including an ice cream parlor, nursery, beauty shop and library. In fair weather, they can walk the winding pathways of our secure outdoor courtyard. The facility is secured at all times and a closed circuit television system helps monitor the residents.

Each resident has a private room which they can fill with their own familiar belongings.

Our dining rooms server three tasty meals daily, and happily accomodates individual residents who wish to maintain their own personal eating schedule

There is never a dull moment at the Commons either. We maintain a full schedule of individual and group activities to keep residents busy and socially involved. Group events can include movies, crafts, fitness programs, Bible study classes and excursions into town. Singers and musical groups pay regular visits to The Commons, keeping residents entertained with their favorite show tunes and sing-alongs. Group excersizes, such as stretching classes are available as well.

Individually, residents can "bowl" in our courtyard, gather in groups to sing or play games, wander about "town" or putter in the functioning wood workshop.

Highly popular among residents are the personal pets which staff members frequently bring to visit - a form of therapy which seems equally popular with the pets.

Every week the ice cream parlor puts on an ice cream social, and the beauty shop, which offers free manicures, is open every week.

Other amenities include a toy room filled with playthings for children of all ages (perfect for interacting with tiny visitors), a library and "office" for residents to use at their leisure.
