Our History: Serving the Sandusky Community for 78 Years

History of Providence Care Centers The Sisters of St. Francis have served the health care needs of the Sandusky community for nearly 80 years, most visibly with Providence Hospital. Recently, Providence Hospital was sold and became the Firelands Regional Medical Center South Campus.

However, we have renewed our commitment to this community with an expansion of services supporting the long-term care of the community's elderly. In the past decade, we have established the Providence Care Centers, an Assisted Living residence, a Specialized Assisted Living facility (Alzheimer's and other dementia) and an independent living complex for seniors at The Commons. This initiative is at the cutting edge of our most pressing need of the future: care for our frail, elderly and incapacitated seniors. Many of the sisters formerly at the hospital will be joining these operations and we look forward to serving Sandusky and the community's elderly for many years to come.
